Proton-coupled electron transfer

Marc Robert

Université Paris Diderot, Sorbonne Paris Cité, Laboratoire d’Electrochimie Moléculaire, UMR 7591 CNRS, 15 rue Jean-Antoine de Baïf, F-75205 Paris Cedex 13, France

(The first sentences of the editorial) Association between proton and electron transfer is omnipresent in chemistry, biology as well as in catalysis. The interest for these proton-coupled electron transfers (PCET) reactions stems from the fact that they play a key role in all the processes leading to energy storage into chemical bonds, and thus for all expected renewable energy systems based on solar fuels.
